The Habits of Jesus

Sunday, FEBRUARY 15, 2026 - PASTOR TONY REA

John 13:1-3 NLT

Before the Passover celebration, Jesus knew that His hour had come to leave this world and return to His father. He had loved His disciples during His ministry on earth, and now He loved them to the very end. It was time for supper, and the devil had already prompted Judas, son of Simon Iscariot, to betray Jesus. Jesus knew that the Father had given Him authority over everything and that He had come from God and would return to God.

Revelation 5:13 NIV

… “To Him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power forever and ever!”

John 13:4-5 NLT

So He got up from the table, took off His robe, wrapped a towel around His waist, and poured water into a basin. Then He began to wash the disciples’ feet, drying them with the towel He had around Him.

James 4:6 NLT

… “God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.”

Psalm 18:30-36 NLT

God’s way is perfect. All the Lord’s promises prove true. He is a shield for all who look to Him for protection. For who is God except the Lord? Who but our God is a solid rock? God arms me with strength, and He makes my way perfect. He makes me as surefooted as a deer, enabling me to stand on mountain heights. He trains my hands for battle; He strengthens my arm to draw a bronze bow. You have given me Your shield of victory. Your right hand supports me; Your help has made me great.

Psalm 18:35 NCV

…You stoop down to make me great.

Matthew 20:25-28 NIV

Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave, just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many.

Matthew 23:11 NLT

Jesus said, “The greatest among you must be a servant.”

THREE WAYS TO PURSUE BIBLICAL SERVING

1. Utilize your spiritual gift

2. Turn interruptions into opportunities

3. Stand firm when serving is costly

  1. Utilize your spiritual gift

1 Corinthians 12:4-7 NLT

There are different kinds of spiritual gifts, but the same Spirit is the source of them all. There are different kinds of service, but we serve the same Lord. God works in different ways, but it is the same God who does the work in all of us. A spiritual gift is given to each of us so we can help each other.

1 Peter 4:10 NLT

God has given each of you a gift from His great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.

2. Turn interruptions into opportunities

John 4:4 NIV

Now He had to go through Samaria...

3. Stand firm when serving is costly

Philippians 2:5:8 NIV

In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:  Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be used to His own advantage; rather, He made Himself nothing by taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to death—even death on a cross!

1 Corinthians 15:58 NIV

Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
